How To Tell If Your House Needs Rewiring

by | Jul 4, 2022 | Blog | 0 comments

From a health and safety perspective, it’s essential that the electrical system in your home is fit for purpose and doesn’t pose any risks to you or your family.

As such, it’s important that you familiarise yourself with potential warning signs that might suggest something’s wrong and that repair and maintenance work may be necessary.

Here are a few of the more common signs to be on the watch for. If you notice some or any of these, it may be that your home needs to be rewired, either fully or at least in part.

A burning smell

If you observe a persistent burning smell and you can’t work out where it’s coming from, turn the power off to ensure your safety and seek advice from a professional electrician.

Flickering lights

One flickering light isn’t cause for much concern, but if you notice several in different rooms of the house, it could be indicative of a more serious problem.

Blown fuses

Do the fuses at home trip and blow regularly? This can happen because of issues with the wiring, so it’s always best to get it checked out if you’re unsure.

Scorched sockets & switches

If you spot any brown marks on your electrical sockets and switches, this is a signal that there’s something wrong somewhere – and it’s advisable to call out qualified electricians so they can come and take a look.

Electric shocks

If you’ve ever received an electric shock, no matter how small, from any of your appliances or switches, it’s possible that there’s something wrong with the outlet and you shouldn’t hesitate to have it checked out, as it could be something serious.
