Well an EICR stands for Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) (also known as periodic inspection and testing of an electrical installation)
It’s a bit like an MOT but for your Electrical Installation
An electrical installation condition report (EICR) identifies any damage, deterioration, defects and/or conditions which may give rise to danger along with observations for which improvement is recommended.
The purpose of an EICR, is to determine, so far as is reasonably practicable, whether the installation is in a satisfactory condition for continued service.
If a report is ‘unsatisfactory’ then your contractor electrician will usually provide you with a quotation to rectify any recommendations or improvements.
Homeowners often request, or obtain a condition report as part of a house sale and is recommended to be carried out every 10 years
Landlords for rented accommodation are now obligated to carry out an electrical safety test every 5 years
Business premises are also required to have a valid Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) to meet the requirements of the Electricity at Work Regulations (1989), depending on your type of business, this is required to be inspected between 1 and 5 years.
So with increased awareness of electrical safety concerns regular periodic inspections is a must do!
